Hullo, I have just bought a new Fujitsu laptop which I take connected to the aforementioned router as my wife'south Samsung. We have both run download speed tests on speedtest.net one afterwards the other and she is getting a constant average of 21mbps and I am getting a constant boilerplate of 3 mbps. we have no other downloads running and my laptop seems to exist a college spec than her's. I have tried turning off both the avast virus protection and windows firewall and re-running the test simply get the same results. The laptop has only been turned on for the kickoff time this evening and then I would look everything to exist perfect. Please help.

Thank you for your quick respond. My wireless network adapter seems to be a Centrino wireless N 2230 and my wife's is listed as an Atheros AR9285 - tin can't find a b,g or n in the details?

Howdy :)

Assuming yours is newer than your married woman's ?

An Northward card is capable of 300 mbps... but how quondam is your Router considering it may non like the N connexion...in theory the n card SHOULD slow downwards to the slower earlier speeds (i.e be backwardly uniform) but that'due south theory...in practice you may accept to get a new North rated router...

All the best Brett :)

Aye, my married woman'due south laptop is nearly a year onetime and mine was bought today. The router is but vi months old and is a virgin media superhub VMDG-480 which seems to be quite skilful. I was wondering if there might be a setting on my laptop or in windows vii that might be limiting the download speed?

ofc - at that place is always the "distance" gene..

Assume y'all doing it from same position in house? its not like she is doing test within 1 metre of the wirless router and yous are running your test from fifty yards abroad.. through 4 brick walls?

Pitiful if its am obvious question.... but on Toms - you really deceit take anything for granted.... in that location are some SERIOUS noobs out there ;).
Thanks

No, sensible question, we are sitting within a metre of each other and we are both about four metres from the router in the aforementioned room.

Yeah, my wife'south laptop is about a year old and mine was bought today. The router is just half-dozen months sometime and is a virgin media superhub VMDG-480 which seems to be quite proficient. I was wondering if there might exist a setting on my laptop or in windows 7 that might be limiting the download speed?

Hi :)

Ah y'all must exist in the U.k. too....

That so chosen SUPERHUB with VM acquired a LOT of issues with speed...they issued a firmware update that was MEANT to cure it...

I think you will have to ring VM support tomorrow....

You could effort i other affair first though....

Connect wirelessly to someone else`south router (a friend etc)

If its slow as well its your laptops problem, if its fine on speedtest its your Superhub...

All the best Brett :)

Well - I am on virgin and I accept that router... and while I dont recall the router is great... I call up your experience seems very bad.
I accept but tested.... on my iPhone... using the speedtest.internet app
I am about vi meters away from router... though ii brick walls and the resultes were...
Ping 20ms... Down 29.61Mbps Upwards 3.01Mbps

The service I am on from Virgin is the "30Mb service" .. .. which is 30Mbs down and 3Mbs upwards.

Cant examination on main PC... as its wired (Wires FTW ;) )

HTH
Cheers
